This project proposes a major urban transformation aimed at improving public health, walkability, and environmental quality in central Yerevan. By moving vehicle traffic into underground passages, the design restores the city’s core to pedestrians, offering a continuous and safe route from Republic Square to Russia Square. The approach directly supports Armenia’s growing focus on clean urban mobility, reduced emissions, and healthier public spaces.
The proposal brings together five separate green areas – Yerevan 2750th Anniversary Park, Yerevan 2800th Anniversary Park, Russia Square, Children’s Park, and English Park – into one connected boulevard system. This green corridor strengthens landscape continuity, expands shaded walking routes, and enhances climate comfort in a district that currently lacks coherent pedestrian infrastructure. The result is a unified Yerevan Boulevard that improves urban airflow, increases the city’s green coverage, and provides space for everyday recreation.
Placing roads and parking underground frees the surface for safe pedestrian movement and improves air quality at street level. New underground infrastructure also creates opportunities for commercial, cultural, and service functions without disturbing the historic fabric above. This approach responds to current urban priorities in Armenia, where compact development, multifunctional public spaces, and sustainability are key themes.
The boulevard strengthens connections between major civic squares and introduces a sequence of landscapes that blend traditional Armenian geometry with contemporary park design. Each zone maintains its own identity while contributing to an overall experience of greenery, shade, and public life. From quiet garden pockets to larger ceremonial spaces, the project supports active mobility, social interaction, and mental wellbeing – core elements of modern public-health-oriented urban design.
The vision repositions central Yerevan as a walkable, green, and people-centered environment, aligning with global and local trends in sustainable cities, while celebrating the cultural and natural heritage of Armenia.
